WhatsApp Warning:
Please be informed, an alert has been put out by the Calderdale Safeguarding Board in respect of a WhatsApp concern that appears to be circulating widely and has already impacted a local secondary school.
The circulation is called ‘All year 7’s around the world’ and once opened it is reported to contain inappropriate pornographic content. The source of this circulation is not known, however the school concerned are informing WhatsApp with a view to have it taken down as soon as possible. The police in Calderdale have been informed and support this message to you all.
Whilst the invite is to all year 7’s, it seems very possible that any child with suitable curiosity and access to WhatsApp would likely go looking.
Despite the WhatsApp recommended age of 13 years to hold an account, there are many parents who allow their 9 and 10 year-olds to use WhatsApp unsupervised. If your child has access to a WhatsApp account please be aware of the possibility of your child's phone/account being targeted and monitor accordingly.
