2023-2024
Autumn Term 2023 - Citizenship
This autumn term's Learning 4 Life Curriculum Enrichment Day had a focus on British Values and in particular, Citizenship. Children from Class 1 to Class 6 were organised into mixed vertical groupings and were able to participate in a range of fantastic activities throughout the day, including learning the national anthem, making courage jars, drawing/writing kind and compassionate letters to our local care home residents, composing a tolerance poem, playing the truth of tale game, creating a rap about respect and making posters about the rule of law.
By providing these enriching opportunities, we hope to enhance our children’s wider personal development and life-long learning in a variety of important issues, both now as children and into their future lives.
Spring Term 2024 - A Musical Extravaganza!
For our spring term's Learning 4 Life Days once again all children from Classes 1 – Class 6 were vertically grouped to participate in and enjoy ‘A Musical Extravaganza!’ Throughout the days, all children had the opportunity to learn about a variety of different artists and genres, ranging from classical, soul and disco to jazz, rock and country. They participated in a wonderful range of activities, experiencing the music of Aretha Franklin, Abba and Louis Armstrong to Queen, Ed Sheeran and Bob Marley. In addition, they also confidently composed their own pieces of music and made different musical instruments to make music and perform with.
Summer Term 2024 - CultureStalls
For our summer term's Learning 4 Life Day we celebrated Calderdale's 50th anniversary with a day of culture. In line with Calderdale's Culturedale, we hosted our own ‘Culturestalls’.
Each class explored a different country's culture and heritage through a variety of engaging activities. Reception Class enjoyed Hindu artwork, yoga, rangoli and henna patterns, food tasting and traditional clothing. Class 1 investigated the French language, food tasting, crepe making, singing and stories. Class 2 immersed themselves in Guatemalan traditions, Spanish language, stories and making worry dolls. Class 3 went on a field trip to local heritage sites around Halifax including Shibden Park, The Piece Hall and Dean Clough. Class 4 celebrated Chinese culture with food, writing, dress, music and dance, while Classes 5 and 6 participated in an Indian dance workshop and enjoyed food tasting, music and learning about Indian traditions.
Our children expressed their own identities by coming to school in clothing that reflected their heritage or personal interests. The day was filled with lots of interesting learning, excitement and fun for everyone involved.
